Dear Yuletide Author - 2015
Hello dear Yuletide writer!
Yuletide is one of my favourite things about the summer holidays (yes I'm Australian), and I hope you enjoy yourself! First of all, if you have an idea for an amazing story that you're dying to write, please go ahead and write that! These are just some starting points if you want them :D
Saga (Comics) - Marko, Alana
'Backstory for these two! We've seen a little of Marko's childhood - what about Alana's? What is it like on their home worlds?'
I am madly in love with these two, so I'd be happy with anything you write, really. Especially crossovers with other space-based fandoms!! But backstory would be wonderful. This is such an amazing world - but we've seen very little of Landfall and Wreath themselves! The war has been outsourced, but how much pressure is there back home for young people to contribute to it? Was Alana ever conflicted about it growing up? What were Marko's schooldays in a magic-wielding society like?
Feel free to add as many other characters (canon or your own!) as you like!
N.B. Regarding spoilers: I've only read up to the fourth volume at the time of writing this letter - I'm not following individual issues, so please set the story before or up to the events at the end of the fourth volume!
Megamind (2010) - Megamind, Roxanne Ritchi
'Future adventures! Is there a Supervillian Club Megamind has offended by turning good? Do Roxanne's nosy reporter skills unearth a dangerous story? Perhaps Music Man's debut concert is interrupted by something, and they have to solve it without revealing Metro Man's secret!'
I just love the exuberant craziness of this film! I've talked about futurefic ideas, but I wouldn't mind seeing some Roxanne backstory either. And the film skipped over Megamind's rise to villany after blowing up his Shoolhouse - plenty of detail to fill in there! Again, feel free to add in any other characters you like.
The Brothers Bloom (2008) - Penelope Stamp, Bloom
'Future adventures! What hobby does Penelope drag Bloom into next? What kind of story are they writing together now?'
(From a previous year's prompt): I love how much FUN the movie is, with wacky characters working together and creating a narrative that then shapes them back. Anything along the lines of the movie, really, post-Stephen - can they still pull off cons without his direction? Or are they doing something else? That said, any backstory would be awesome as well. Extra points for adding in Bang Bang!
Treasure Planet (2002) - Amelia, Delbert Doppler
'Ah, the opposites attract lovestory. Anything goes, really - pre-canon (we know very little), during or post-canon (I imagine they have very different domestic lifestyles!)'
I ADORED this movie as a kid (still do!) - the sheer creativity of the future world, Jim's character arc, the soundtrack ... and I love the way these completely different people find something to love in each other. So anything around their relationship (or backstory - particularly Amelia's!) would be great. Do they go sailing around the galaxy together? How do a dog scholar and a cat space marine divide up the housework?
In general:
I like humour (dark or light), wordplay, clever people being clever, worldbuilding, action and so on. I like playing around with genre tropes and good old-fashioned romance/friendship/family feels. Any crossovers/AUs/gen/slash/het you feel like throwing in there is fine!
I don't like explicit torture descriptions, or extensive sex scenes - people getting hurt or horny is fine, but please avoid graphic details. I do prefer happy or at least bittersweet endings (but I won't be devastated if your story demands something else!)
